Two important aspects reveal in the paintings and drawings by Ondřej Roubík that make his work authentic, attractive and original. The first is a inclination to traditional painting techniques characterized by a kind of conscious archaicity and a tendency towards romantic, symbolist and realistic historicalisms, but also to Mannerism awareness. The certainty of the drawing composition is suitably complemented by a saturated darker color scheme enhencing the psychology of the painting as well as the smooth painting style. The second aspect of author´s work is the focus on model and portrait; on the figure/s in the foreground that define/s its/their psychological aura. The surroundings of the subject are not very narrative, on the contrary. The author often suffices with a modest extras (path, cloud, object, wall, horizon, window, flower, canvas, toy, etc.), however, it works as a subliminal cue for differently developing associations. Sometimes the author deliberately break the pressure of realism with his tense prosaicism (Man, 2009) when he add a metaphysical inappropriateness into a visual situation, such as a floating figure (Brighton, 2012), nimbus (Big Day, 2013) or scale anagram (Aries, 2009; (2009). Despite the descriptive form of Roubík´s paintings, we can never be quite sure where their author actually draws us through the visuality and narrativity.
